OUR CLASSES

Join us!

Two Young Ballet Dancers

Creative Movement

Recommended Ages 2.5-6

Designed for our youngest dancers, creative movement is a great introduction into the world of dance!  Dancers will be exposed to beginner ballet and gymnastics technique, and will explore their movement in a fun, welcoming environment.

Young Ballet Class

"Combo" Classes

Recommended Ages 5-8

For our “combo” classes, we offer a 45 minute class split between two styles: either Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Hip Hop, or Lyrical.  For our Tap & Try class, we will spend each class tapping, and will rotate styles of dance throughout the year.  Our combo classes are a great opportunity for kids to try out a variety of styles!

Arabesque

Ballet

Recommended Ages 7+

Ballet is the foundation of a technical dance education, and comes with its own vocabulary.  Each class begins with a ballet barre, moves to a center floor adagio, across the floor, and petite and grand allegro.  Students will learn terminology in French, correct body alignment, how to improve their technique and develop a love for the most graceful living art. Levels 4+ are required to take 2 classes a week.

Dancer

Pointe

Director Recommendation Only

An extension of our ballet program, Pointe classes are available to the most advanced, director-approved students.  Students are required to take two regular ballet technique classes in order to be enrolled in Pointe.  Dancers will advance from Level I to Level II with the director’s discretion.

Swing Dancers

Musical Theater Dance

Recommended Ages 8+

These classes are designed for those theater lovers!  As an open level class, we will explore a variety of dance styles, learning the most frequently used steps you see in theater dance.  In addition, the students will occasionally participate in scene study and will work with a voice instructor.

Modern Ballet Dancers

Jazz

Recommended Ages 8+

Our jazz program explores classical through contemporary and commercial jazz.  Class will feature a warm up stretch, strength and conditioning, isolation work, as well as across the floor and center combinations.

Modern Style Dancer

Lyrical

Recommended Ages 8+

An interpretive style of dance, Lyrical takes the strength of ballet technique and incorporates the use of the torso and musicality.  The lyrics to a song or the story behind a piece acts as the inspiration for Lyrical movement.

Jumping Dancer

Contemporary

Ages 12+

A more percussive style of Lyrical dance, Contemporary requires musicality and versatility in many styles of dance. Working from strong ballet technique, while fusing elements of jazz and modern, Contemporary focuses on more pedestrian movements, while pairing sharp and fluid gestures through improvisation.

Tap Shoes

Tap

Recommended Ages 8+

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Hoofing. Classes will emphasize developing proper tap technique, producing crisp, clean, and clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Break Dance

Hip Hop

Recommended Ages 7+

Class will feature a warm up, strength and conditioning, isolation work, as well as across the floor and center combinations.  Dancers will also get an introduction to basic break dancing.  Our program is dedicated to teaching its students to appreciate the history of Hip Hop, while embracing the ever-changing styles we see today.
Atlantic Dance Arts’ Hip-Hop classes are a blending of urban street dance styles including Breaking, Popping, Locking, Krumping, and House. Students will learn the history of the Hip Hop culture, and will be given the opportunity to participate in at least one Hip Hop Jam each year. Recommended ages 7 and up.

Dancer with Hoop

Acro

Recommended Ages 8+

Miss Pam, our Acro teacher, follows the prestigious Acrobatic Arts syllabus.  Our Acro program will teach students how to correctly execute acrobatic tricks and skills.  Safety and proper technique is our main focus.  Class will begin with a thorough stretch, as well as strength and conditioning exercises.  Floor and mat exercises will be the main component of these classes. Students will complete optional Acrobatic Arts evaluations twice a year.

Women in Dance Performance

Performance Team

Ages 6-18

Interested students are placed on the Performance Team at the director's discretion.  This provides an opportunity for the serious dance student to grow in performance skills and technique.  Rather than focusing on winning, the studio is more concerned with the growth of each member, taking the opportunity to attend classes and receive valuable critiques from famous professionals.  The team travels to Regional and National Dance competitions and takes multiple workshops with Master teachers.  The “Mini” team will meet Wednesdays 5:45-6:45, and the “Junior-Senior” Team will rehearse Saturdays from 11-2.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

We offer many performance opportunities to all of our students.  Contact us with any questions!

Annual Recital

Culminating at the end of the school year, we hold our annual recital.  It is open to all students, but is not required.  This year, our recital will be held Saturday, June 18th at Gorham High School.

Watch Week

Creative Movement classes offer a “watch week” during the first week of every month, which allows parents to come see their children’s progress in class.

Local Performances

The studio also promotes performance trips to local Nursing Homes and other public events.  Usually the performers are on the Competition Team, but class routines can also take the opportunity to perform as well.

Atlantic Dance Arts Performance Team

Provides an opportunity for the serious dance student to grow in performance skills and technique.  Rather than focusing on winning, the studio is more concerned with the growth of each member, taking the opportunity to attend classes and receive valuable critiques from famous professionals.  The team travels to Regional and National Dance competitions and takes multiple workshops with Master teachers.  See the Performance Team page for more information!

Assistant Teaching

Upon reaching a certain ability level, students will have the opportunity to participate as a class demonstrator and assistant teacher.  They must complete a training class held before classes begin, and will be evaluated throughout the year.  All older students on our performance team will be encouraged to guide their younger teammates.
